CHARLES. G. ELLIS
Born April 16, 1881. A teacher for 19 years: 12 years in various local schools and 7 years in Mitchell Collegiate Institute. Married Laura Wilson March 15, 1902. Children: Parnell, Elva, Mattie, Lee, Dennis and Fred. Resigned as Mitchell County Register of Deeds to enter into the Ministry in 1919. Served the following churches as Pastor: Spruce Pine First, Grassy Creek, Bear Creek, Mine Creek, Pine Branch, Lily Branch, Silve Chapel, Liberty Hill, Bakersville, Cane Creek, Little Rock Creek, and Fork Mountain under the Mitchell County Baptist Association. Served as Pastor in Yancey and Clear Creek in the Blue Ridge Association. Under his leadership Bakersville, Bear Creek and Grassy Creek erected their Church Buildings and began Spruce Pine's current building. Evangelistic work carried him over the western and piedmont sections of North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. Pastored First Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C. and died there on November 15, 1938.
